Part One
Tina-Dani! Time for work, get up!
Reluctantly I got up. Tina waking me up wasn’t as bad as how my mom does it. I hopped out of the bed and hopped in the shower. Forty-five minutes later, I got out, did my thing, and got dressed. I put on some ripped jeans, a blue and black strip tank, and some black flats. I did my hair in a side ponytail and put in my blue hoops. Oh, you don’t even know who I am do you? Well, I’m Danielle, nice to meet you! Haha, just kidding. I’m Danielle, but everyone calls me Dani. Nothing but Dani. I’m told that I resemble my sister Tina, which I hate. I love her dearly, but I’m my own person two you know. I’m average height. I have short, blackish-brown hair( but with the help of extensions, no one needs to know lol), I’m not really tan, but I’m more of a chocolate-caramel skin. I get that from my daddy. And, I’m proud to say, I’m pleasantly-plump. Being big is what I love lol.
I ran down to Tina’s room. She was putting on her make-up. I don’t know why, no one cute ever comes to our restaurant. Our family owns the ‘almost hottest’ family restaurant in L.A. We have to work there. I don’t mind it…Sometimes. Just the idiots that think that when my daddy isn’t around, they can try to spit their game on me. As if they had any…Anyway, my sister Tina is the best! She’s the same height as me. Which gives off the idea of resemblance. Tall, black hair, thin, tan, and brown eyes. At least we got that from our mother. That, and a very strong Latin accent when we’re angry. She’s a helper and always there for people. She can get loud and sometimes shy but my friends say she’s crazy and random there is always a smile plastered in her face. That’s why I love her! She’s going to study in fashion designing. Lol She wore white leggings, with a jean skirt. Yellow and white strip tank, and some yellow flats. She held her hair down with a yellow headband.
Tina-Hey squirt. Ready?
Dani-Yeah. What are you dressing up for?
Tina-it’s a surprise
Dani-Really now? Is it something to do with my birthday?
Tina-Maybe. But your party isn’t until tonight and we still didn’t get you a costume
Dani-Maybe we shouldn’t do a theme. No one really knows what a Mardi Gras Masquerade is…
Tina-Yes Mon Cherie, but we do. Daddy’s flying everyone from home and you know he wants you sweet sixteen to be as just as great as mine was..
Dani-(sighs) Lets get to work, we’ll talk about it later..
Tina-Oookay. C’mon!
I ran downstairs to the front door. I grabbed my jacket and waited for Tina. She ran down the stairs and we headed to her car. It was BMW she got for her twenty-first birthday. She’s so freakin’ lucky! We drove to L.A. The biggest, loudest, and crowed part of Hollywood. We got to the parking lot and got out. I ran in, hung up my jacket and grabbed my apron. Becky and Meghan are my two BEST friends. We’ve known each other since diaper days, nothing could tear us apart. They’re practically family. Becky is Five feet, she has medium length, wavy brown hair, brown eyes, slim figure and tanned skin. People sometimes think she’s my sister. Its pretty funny is you ask me. Well, she’s crazy (in a good way), down to earth, very random, unique, funny , easily distracted, weird (in a good way), smart, nice, trustworthy, usually shy, open minded, honest, not the jealous type and a people person. She loves to help other people in whatever situation they are and give them advice if needed.
Meghan on the other hand is funny, quiet when she wants to be, other wise doesn’t shut up. hyper most of the time. always there for whoever needs her. A great friend, and totally random. But we love her nevertheless. She’s a total tomboy which is how we became friends. We’re both tomboys. But she has a more edgy side to her than I do. She writes music. Plays instruments. A true rocker. She’s the only person my age who can relate to me. Thank goodness because Becky and Tina are almost the same age and they have nothing in common with me at times.

Tina/Dani-(giggles)
Gloria-Sweetheart, your party is tomorrow, how do you feel?
Dani-Nervous. Mama, I don’t we should do this, what if the whole school doesn’t come?
Gloria-My little abejorro. Don’t worry so much, everything is going to be fine…
She smiled. Her accent was deep and strong. Daddy didn’t really have an accent. But it was noticeable every now and then. He’s Creole. I smiled slightly and wrapped my apron around my waist. My first table of the night and it had to be with a group of dumbass. Just my luck huh? I sighed and walked over. They were laughin’ at some type of nonsense, but I paid no mind to it.
Dani-What will it be guys?
M/v-You baby..
Boys-(laugh)
Dani-One, I ain’t on the menu. Two, you couldn’t afford me baby!
I let Becky handle that table. They was full of bull and I had other things on my mind and I didn’t need the stupidity. I walked to another table. It was two booths filled with loads of people. Some of whom I’ve seen on Disney channel. Yeah, I still watch Disney, you’re never to old for Disney lol. How the found out about this restaurant, I don’t know. And when I mean everybody, I mean everybody. Selena Gomez, Ashley Tisdale, Jonas Family, Demi Lovato, everybody! Nervously, I walked up to the booths. Sighed, and did what I usually do.
Dani-Are these two booths together?
F/v-Yes. And we’re ready to order
Dani-Okay, well I’m Dani, and I’m your waitress for the evening. Drinks?
I got to everyone and got the orders down. The last person was the curly-haired, cutie I fell in love with. Nick was his name and sweet talkin’ was his game. He looked up from his menu and we stared for almost five minutes straight. I thought of looking away, but couldn’t. I stuttered for a moment. His long curls draped over his brown eyes. Why was I acting like this? This isn’t me. I’m the tomboy that doesn’t even know the meaning of preppy! I broke the trance.
Dani-And you?…
Nick-Um…I’m still deciding…
Dani-Oh. Okay…I’ll be back in a…In a m-minute
I put my notepad in my pocket and walked off. That, was the most awkward I have ever been. He was just staring and I…Zoned out for no reason what so ever. I came back with Meghan helping me bring out the food. We each handed them their plates, took up their empty glasses and came back out with some more drinks. I was about to leave to go back into the kitchen when that same group of boys started hounding me again. I rolled my eyes. Would this day ever end? Meghan rolled her eyes as well.
Meghan-Don’t they ever give up?
Dani- No. That’s what make life so interesting
Meghan-(giggles)
Demi-Excuse me, I don’t mean to bud in, but are those boys messing with you?
Dani-Yes. Its okay, really. They’re from my school…
Selena-How rude are they?
Dani-Very.
I realized I just talked to celebrities without spilling what I had for lunch on the floor. I reluctantly went back to their table. He purposely spilled soda all on my apron. I was so angry. And for a crazy person to be angry, that’s the worst thing that can happen.
Meghan-HEY, WHY’D YOU DO THAT?!
By now, Meghan had the whole restaurant’s attention. I was so heated, you see fire in my eyes and smoke from my ears. My mother ran from out the kitchen along with my dad. Becky came from another table and so did Tina. Worriment in their eyes. They were afraid I might do something crazy. I am the only one who anger problems and I love to express them freely…
Tina-Dani, remember what mama said about your temper
Dani-You think its funny to ruin my pants? DO YOU!?
Becky-Oh goodness, everyone hit the deck!
Gloria-Danielle sweetie, don’t…
I didn’t listen to any of them. I picked up someone else plate and dumped it on the guy. I new I had my daddy’s temper. And that was one of the things I wasn’t proud of. I took off my apron and ran to the bathroom. I tried to clean it off, but it was no use. I climbed on the sink and sat there. I wondered if they were coming to my party. And how to avoid them from getting into the party. I heard the door open. Becky, Meghan, and Tina came in to try and calm me down. It was no use, I pissed off. Surprisingly, Demi and Selena came in too.
Tina-Sis, you’re alright?
Dani-If they show up at my party, I’m canceling it!
Becky-Nooo, you can’t do that, its your sweet sixteen!
Dani-Don’t care. I rather it a driver’s license then a party any day
Demi-Um, we know we don’t know you very well. But we wanted to say sorry for…You know..
Dani-Oh, thank you..
Selena-And you can’t cancel on your birthday party. Sixteen is a big deal lol…Don’t let those jerks ruin it for you…
Dani-Thanx for the advice guys. I need to leave soon anyway, I gotta find a costume
Demi-You’re having a costume party?
Dani-Sort of. it’s a Mardi Gras Masquerade!
Demi/Selena-Ooooo!lol
Dani-you’re welcome to come if you’re not to busy with anything
Demi-Sure, when is it?
Dani-Really? You would come?
Demi-Yeah. I wouldn’t miss out on a friend’s birthday lol
Dani-Friend?
Now I was deeply confused. I just met this person not less than twenty minutes ago. And now she’s my friend? Tina laughed at my confusion. I didn’t think it was so funny. Becky patted my shoulder softly. I’d admit to it, I am a little slow at times, but I didn’t think anything of it.
Demi-Yes friend. Now, lets go back out there..
She smiled. Demi was a real nice person. So was Selena. They weren’t those stereotype actresses who have diva moments. I hopped off the sink and hugged onto my sister. We walked out of the bathroom, seeing my father throw the jackasses out on their butts. We laughed. He walked over to me, giving me a slight hug.
Gerald-Are you okay sweetheart?
Dani-Yes daddy, I’m fine
Gloria-Sweetie, its time to go. The shop closes in a few minutes
Dani-Snap! Daddy is it okay?
Gerald-Go honey. Tina drive her okay?
Tina-Yes daddy…
I went to the back and grabbed my jacket. I gave Demi and Selena my number so I could tell them more about the party. My anger was now restored into smiles. I looked back, and he stared with heavily stares. His eyes turned from a regular brown to hazel heaven. He gave me a shy smile. I blushed slightly and walked out of the restaurant. Tina must’ve noticed because she smiling as if she was the kool-aid man herself. I looked at her as if she was alright.
Tina-I saw that. You have the hots for Nick!
Dani-What?! No I don’t
Tina-You know, you’re a horrible liar
Dani-What ever Tina

I hopped in her car on the passenger’s side. Tina got in on her side and started the car. I looked out the window the whole drive downtown. I was thinking of what was the surprise Tina wanted to hide from me. The party. The boy. Everything was on my mind but at the same time, I could only think one think that stood out from the rest. The boy…
Tina-We’re here!
Dani-Lets roll
We got out of the car and went into the shop. The owner greeted us was such kindness. All throughout the shop, I couldn’t find a single costume that said masquerade. I did manage to find a mask that covered my eyes. Purple was the them of the dress I desired. The mask was purple with little gold daps of paint going all around the rim. And little gold designs on each side. I bought that and a pair of gold earrings. I paid for the mask and earrings, side, and headed back to the car. I ended my lunch break early. I was in search for a dress and I could never find it. Tina hopped in on the driver’s side and patted my shoulder just as Becky did a few hours ago. I was so sad. Depressed if you want to call it that.
Tina-Its okay Bumblebee…We’ll find something else
Dani-It’s to late Tina. All the costume shop are closed….
Tina-…Are you ready for that surprise now?
Dani-Sure, why not…
I spoke glumly. We got back to he restaurant, mama and daddy were smiling from ear to ear. The restaurant didn’t have as much people as it did during lunch. My new friends had left, probably back to their jobs as actors, singers, and actresses. I didn’t understand was so exciting. I had a gloom cloud above my head.
Gloria-Didn’t find it huh?
Dani-No ma’am
Gerald-Well, what about this? Becky, Meghan, bring it out!
Becky and Meghan each had in their hands a beautiful, purplish-bronze gold dress. Just the way I pictured it. My face lit up in awe. I swear I tear swelled in my eyes. I grasped my hands against my mouth. Nearly on the verge of screaming. It was the exact, eighteen hundreds them dress I wanted. Then Tina spoke.
Tina-I made it a few weeks ago…
Dani-No, you didn’t!
Tina-Yep, I did. I knew there wasn’t going be any dress like this so I made it for you. Surprise!!!
Dani-Awe, Tina thank you!!
I hugged her tightly. She brought me to the costume shop, knowing that there would be no dress for me. I hurriedly grabbed the dress and brought it to the car. I didn’t want it to get ruin! When I got back, I slapped on my apron and did my job. When was over, Tina gave me, Becky, and Meghan a ride home. I was happy that they were sleeping over. Everything for the party was set. I didn’t have to worry about anything, I didn’t have to do anything. All I wanted to do tonight was hang out with my girls and have a sleepover…
