Chapter 1
Are you almost at your new house yet?
I guess...we're about 20 mins. away. i'll call you when i get there.
Mkayyy. i miss you already girl. i still can't believe my best friend is gone :(
i know jamie. this sucks so freaking bad. i swear i'll sneak out one night and randomly fly home.
lmaoo. that would be awesome, but make the best of it, you're in california now. take a deep breath and enjoy it.
So I guess she was right. Moving sucks, but it's California. Maybe something good will come out of it.
My phone was dancing in my bag, but it was filled to such a capactity, that I couldn't even see the dim glow that shone when I got a new text message.
The car ride was like a drainage of thought. My mind was sweltered and dazed from long flights and disappointing goodbyes. I tried to focus on the cobalt sky, but clouds became selfish and stole it away from me. Story of my life.
Whats the neighborhood like? are you there now?
its a long street with a lot of huge homes. my parents were like, oh yeah celebrities live in here. mhm. ok dad. like we would move to a neighborhood with celebs.
seriously?!? I wonder if any do live there..check it out. knock on peoples doors lol.
hahaha i don't wanna creep out our neighbors just yet. but apparently that band the jonas bros live here? idk.. i guess they're cute.

The roar of the engine faded with longing pauses as we drifted up the driveway. It was such a dramatic entry, I could have sworn my dad planned that.
Moving trucks were cluttering the road soon enough. Even though I had all of my stuff, I know that part of me was still left in New Jersey. It would always remain there.
Ignoring melodramatic movers, I trudged to the door immediately. If I was gonna live here for the rest of my life, I better get damn used to it.
The outside of the house itself was quite normal. White and beige, large and picture perfect. It made me feel like a Sim who's life was being placed into someone else's hands. My home wasn't anything I wanted...only what others had built for me.
It kinda made me feel useless.
Pushing my attitude out of the way, I managed to roam through my new living accomidations. A living room to my right, a study to my left, a winding staircase that echoed with sadness when I stepped on it's fragile skeleton, a chrome kitchen in the west hall, and 4 bedrooms above me. I could make out some pleading whispers from my parents who had just entered. My mom wasn't happy with the layout; typical.
Carefully and quietly I dialed Jamie's number. Maybe her bubblegum voice would sweeten my sour attitude.
The phone reacted at once and played her ringback tone: Jonas Brothers.
Would I ever expect anything other than that?
"KELLY!" Her voice rung through my mind; instantly calming me.
"Hi Jamie...I miss you so much already. I wish you could be here with me," I whimpered back.
" *groan* Please try and enjoy yourself. Make the best of it! Make new friends, buy cute shoes,
go to the beach.. I don't know! Do something to make you better." She sounded concerned for
me, but also a bit frustrated.
"Yeah you're right. I think I'll take a walk or something. My parents are too anal to let me fix or
unpack anything. They think I'll drop a lamp or something."
"You are known to do that..." She giggled under her breath.
"Never have I once broke a lamp! You're absurd."
"Okay well it's dinner time on the east coast. I gotta peace."
Ugh. Why did she have to leave me? She was doing it on purpose.
"Tell your parents I say hi. And have them send me some of those mashed potatoes. You know I
miss them more than you."
She needed to get teased a bit.
"Goodbye Kelly. Go find some California friends. Eat sushi and buy extensions. You'll fit right
in!" She tried to be serious, but hysterics broke out in about 4 seconds after her last few sentences.
"Bye Jams. I'll text you if I find those Jonas kids. Maybe they'll befriend my 'poor unfortunate soul.' "
Again, a wind chime of laughter was rumbling through the phone back in New Jersey.
"BYE KELL! I LOVE YOU! Call me all the time!"
In a second, I was disconnected from the only true friend I had.
The evening breeze tickled my cheeks and softened me. The air resembled the air I missed the most, and I took a deep breath to savor every taste I could scramble for.
I tried not to think of anything as I took a walk. It was supposed to free my mind, not damage it. My hair was being torn away from my face, the wind was whipping wildly. My necklace was struggling along my throat, but I held it in place. I had a single charm on it from Jamie. A pink, multi faceted stone that made diamonds shudder with envy. I promised myself and Jamie, that this jewel would never leave my sight. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever gotten, and I did not want to lose something so close to my heart.
I passed a gated house on my left. The windows flickered on in the north window when I paced by. I noticed a figure, but couldn't determine gender. Oh well, probably some nosy cild.
An electric growl erupted behind me. I turned sharply to see the garage of the house pull up. Footsteps fluttered around the garage. Noises crashing. I wondered who it was and what they were doing. My stance was stiff, just in case this stranger had a word to talk up with me. My stare was even at a shadow prancing inside. Suddenly, a boy appeared from the entry. His hair oil black, and his skin was a warm tone; almost like butter. He seemed to trip over his own feet, what a doofus.
"Hi." His voice was brisk.
I mumbled a bit, taken aback by his kindness.
"Hi...er, I'm the new neighbor. I was just taking a walk, sorry if I startled you by walking by or some-"
He cut me off. Huh, some friendly kid.
"Don't worry about it. I didn't notice you before. Usually no one takes walks around here anyway,"
His last sentence kind of surprised me. Why would no one take a walk once in a while?
"OH! Right, the other reason I came out.." He made himself more determinable in the splinting glow of a streetlight as he bent down, heeling ashes in the road behind his feet. Suddenly, his fingers were wrenched around Jamie's stone. Not believing the sight, I checked my neck-no diamond. I guess when I tried to stop it from flying off, my grip was too strong and ripped it off.
The boy narrowed the gap between us and he dropped the jewel in my outreached palm.
"I saw it fall into the light when you walked. It was kinda hard to miss. The shine on that is incredible..." He shook is long locks in disbelief.
Ah, now I knew the face.
